Mmmmm…Raspberry Mousse
April 13th, 2007
I think our mail man is quickly becoming my favorite visitor. He is always bringing gift to my door. Today he brought Raspberry Mousse from yarnchef’s etsy shop…880 yards of rosy pink laceweight merino. She packaged the yarn so nicely in layers of tissue paper and included a handwritten thank you note, a stitch marker, and a recipe. The yarn is very soft and springy, I think it will be a dream to knit with.
Who says that Friday the 13th is a bad day?

Progress Report: Dex
April 13th, 2007

Dex is now well on his way to recovery. We took him to the vet on Wednesday for a check up and to have his stitches removed. The vet said he finally thought Dex was out of the woods and would fully recover. This week he has ventured out and been more social. Last week we had him sequestered in the bathroom (albeit with the door open so he was free to come out if he wanted) where he had his water and litter box nearby; I could close the door to administer medicine and food and he could not escape. On Easter Sunday he began to purr when petted, and by Monday he was exploring the house and trying to hop up on lower pieces of furniture. After we brought him home from the vet on Wednesday, he developed a cold within a few hours. So now he has claimed the blue fleece pictured above and wants constant petting from us. He has become quite the little “mama’s boy” but that’s okay because he is such a sweet little cat. My husband snapped this picture as he was leaving for work this morning. You can see the areas where they shaved Dex’s fur on his stomach and paw. I am such a softie…and Dex is pretty good at milking this. I think he is even getting a bit spoiled.

Shawl Style.
April 11th, 2007

I received a comment last week asking what I wear my shawls with. I have been very slow in responding, so I apologize. Rather than just responding via email, I thought this topic would make a good post, especially considering how popular shawl knitting has become.
I usually pair my shawls with either a matching outfit (ex: my rusty orange melon shawl with a rusty colored top, or my blue-green spring shawl with a green or turquoise top) a contrasting outfit (ex: my white swallowtail shawl with a black top and dark denim skirt, or the rusty orange melon shawl with an olive green top), or a neutral outfit (ex: any colored shawl with a crisp white top and khakis or dark denim). Currently I have only three shawls, but I have plans to knit about four more. Lol.
When in doubt about whether a shawl will compliment your outfit, think of it as a sweater. Would you wear that color of sweater with that outfit? Or think of it as an accessory. In today’s fashion, it is quite popular to add a beaded necklace or a pair of shoes in a contrasting shade to the outfit you are wearing. Would you wear an accessory in this color with the outfit you are wearing?
Have fun with your shawls! Use a bright color to punch-up a dreary or neutral colored outfit. Use a neutral shawl to contrast with brights or a matching shawl for color cohesiveness. (Just remember…if you mix too many different colors together, you may look like a clown. If you use too many neutrals, your outfit may be uninteresting and lack a focal point.)

Doing the Happy Dance
April 9th, 2007
As is typical of most women, I love shoes. I think a shoe can make or break an outfit. Until my very late 20s, I wore a size 2 child’s shoe. Just imagine with me for a moment wearing the same size of shoe as your average second grader (like Barbie sneakers or flower-power sandals) with something like, say a buisness suit or even your wedding dress, and you will see the dilemna I had for many years. I am 4′10″ and my husband is 6′…yet I was not able to wear high heels on my wedding day. The predominant shoes available for children consisted of a few main colors: black (often patent leather), brown, white, and ballerina pink were the norm for dressier styles abounding in buckles and bows; athletic shoes usually sported a character theme, and so on.
As I neared thirty, I gained about as many pounds, and my feet also changed sizes. I was ecstatic to find that I could now wear a real, adult, high heeled shoe…in a size 4. So the downfall is that not a lot of stores in my area carry this size of shoe - one store to be exact: Naturalizer. The mall store does not usually have any of my size in stock, but will special order for me. I have found it is just easier to go online and check what is in stock in my size and order directly from there. My dilemna is that they only offer a few of their styles in sizes smaller than a 5. Because of this, when I actually find a pair of shoes that I like that is also available in my size, I purchase them immediately (because they will be sold out tomorrow). So when I found these gorgeous sandals this morning, I knew they were mine. Add in the fact that they were on sale, plus my preferred customer discount, all I needed to do was click the purchase button!
Okay, okay…I understand that purchasing a pair of shoes may not be a big deal to y’all, but I average about 1-2 new pairs a year because of the difficulty I have in finding my size. So you can just look away as I do my little celebration dance for my new shoes. Lol.

Happy Easter!
April 8th, 2007
Good afternoon and happy Resurrection Sunday! We enjoyed spending today at church and with family, then came home to spend the rest of the evening quietly together. I did take a bit of time to reflect on the wonder and miracle that makes this day so special to us who are Christians. To know that Jesus Christ died for my sins then rose again from the grave in triumph still strikes awe in me. He died for each and every one of us, in order to reconcile us with God. I hope those of you who read this can rejoice with me on this wondrous day.
As for Dex, he is continuing to improve. Last night he even purred for a bit when I was petting him. I was jealous because he had purred for my husband once before that, but would not do it for me. I think he has been upset with me for forcing so much food and medicine into him. This evening when I got home it was more than past time to feed Dex. He is supposed to eat every four hours, but missed at least one feeding while we were gone. As was suggested yesterday by the vet, I decided to offer him some regular canned cat food, rather than the prescription food he has been force-fed, to see if he would eat if voluntarily. I was pleased and surprised when, after a bit of coaxing, he began eating the Iams food from the saucer!!!! He ate several bites before my husband came to observe the big event, then was not interested anymore. I left him sequestered with it and will check on him in about 15 minutes to see if he has tried to eat any more. He has come such a long way in the past week. He went from being on death’s doorstep several different times to walking around, using his litter box, purring, and now eating finally voluntarily. Thank you to everyone for all of your kind words and prayers during this ordeal, I really appreciate them!
